Mary Brown named new Financial Aid Officer - 07/02/2010.
Mary Brown has been named the new financial aid officer for St. John’s College, Department of Nursing effective July 19, 2010.
Mary has a B.A. in Accounting and Business Administration & Leadership from Blackburn College. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Political Studies at University of Illinois Springfield and anticipates completion in December 2010.
She has been very active in her professional organization, ILASFAA since 2006 and has served the organization in many different capacities, including but not limited to nominations committee and southern regional coordinator. Mary was honored with the ILASFAA New Professional Award in 2009. She is currently is serving as Vice President of the 4-year Senior Publics.
Mary comes to us from University of Illinois-Springfield, where she served as Financial Advisor. AT UIS she also served on various University Committees. She has experience counseling students in financial aid, processing award offers, working with the federal work study program, and many other financial award programs. While at UIS, Mary initiated and created an email based Financial Assistance newsletter for students.
Customer Service is her number one priority and she holds an open door policy when it comes to meeting with students. She describes herself as a detail person who believes no detail is too small for her attention.
Kelley Obringer, MSN, RN newest instructor - 07/02/2010
Instructor Kelley Obringer, MSN, RN is the newest member to join St. John’s College, Department of Nursing effective August 2, 2010.
Kelley is a graduate of Millikin University bachelor and Master’s program. The title of her thesis was “Needs of Adult Family Members of ICU Patients.”
Kelley comes to us with experience in education, including a clinical residency during her master’s program and part-time and adjunct teaching experience, including student tutoring at Illinois State University, Millikin University and Richland Community College. She currently serves as a staff nurse in ICU at Decatur Memorial Hospital (DMH), where she also serves as a charge nurse for that unit.
She is a member of ANA, and serves as an ACLS instructor and member of the mentorship program at DMH. She recently presented a poster at the National STTI Convention in Indianapolis, disseminating her master’s work.

Thank you to all who participated in the Higher Learning Commission Site Visit. Our visitors’ preliminary recommendation was for continued accreditation for ten years. We are fortunate to have so many talented people working with us to continue the growth and development of the College!

Her distinguished 34-year career in nursing and academic leadership includes 11 years as an instructor and associate professor at St. John’s College and six years as a clinical nurse and nursing service educator at St. John’s Hospital. ![]()
