About the Alumni Association

St. John's College Alumni Association members include graduates from the diploma school and the College Nursing program. The Alumni publishes the ECHO a newsletter with information about Alumni, the College and the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis twice a year. Among its many activities, the Alumni sponsors several fundraising activities each year such as the Alumni Raffle, the Phonathon and benefits designed to raise funds for student scholarships, faculty development and projects that enhance or improve the student educational experience.

Alumni Banquet

Each year, the College joins with the Alumni Association to honor the 50 year, 25 year and 10 year graduates at the annual Alumni Banquet. The Alumni Association Officers are now planning for the 2012 Annual Banquet.

Theresa (Jones) Vann, Class of 1949

named 2011 Distinguished Alumni

It is our pleasure to announce that Theresa Vann, Class of 1949, has been selected by the St. John’s Alumni Association to receive the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award. The Award was announced at her home by the Alumni Board Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Mrs. Vann will be honored at the October 2011 Alumni Banquet and recognized as a distinguished guest at the April 11th, 125th Anniversary Blessing of St. John’s College building.
In the words of her students and colleagues who nominated her:
“Theresa has had a position of influence on hundreds of students. Many well trained RN’s both active and retired. Theresa was for many a role model. She was wife; (in the late ‘60’s) active Mother; Professional! She smiled; was relaxed; had a sense of humor; was well read; continued to aspire to greater things in Nursing; procured two master’s degrees; was compassionate as a care giver, teacher and friend. She is delightfully Franciscan – hospitality is so important to her. Joy in her life, family or relationships is most evident. She will represent St. John’s College on a level with Sr. Charitas!”
“Theresa championed the St. John’s College of Nursing. She was strongly committed to nursing educations and maintaining alumni involvement to the program.”
“Theresa’s career in nursing education demonstrates excellence in leadership in practice. She retired from St. John’s College of Nursing with the title of Assistant Professor in Parent-Child nursing. She graduated from St. John’s in 1949, MS in Education 1985 and MSN in 1990.”

 

 Sister Charitas Prince Named First Distinguished       

In 2010, the St. John’s Alumni Association honored Sr. Charitas Prince with the 1st Annual Distinguished Alumni Award.

We would like to build on this tradition by involving Alumni in the nomination process. The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes St. John’s Nursing alumnus whose career in nursing exemplifies excellence in leadership through clinical practice or education.

St. John’s Nursing Alumni Association would like to acknowledge Distinguished Alumni for their significant contributions to the school and the

nursing community.  In addition, we would like to begin recognizing a Young Alumni Award for those who have contributed significantly early in their nursing career.  The Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Award and Young Alumni Award through September 20, 2010

Honor one of our graduates and colleagues by submitting the following:

  • An Alumni nominee who graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing/St. John’s   College Department of Nursing.
  • A Young Alumni nominee from St. John’s College, Department of Nursing who has graduated in or before 2000.
  • A brief statement on why you think the nominee should be considered for the award.
  • A summary of the nominee’s accomplishments.

Alumni Activites

Teresa Vann, an esteemed Alumni member, former faculty member and nurse was honored at the October, 2009 Alumni Banquet. Mrs. Vann donated a hand made Nursing Cape, from the 1930’s to the Alumni Association. Alumni members had an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for this Cape at the banquet. The proceeds are being used to start up a Teresa Vann Scholarship Fund. The goal is a total of $10,000.00, the amount required to begin this fund.
